U Lun Gywe (1930)

U lun Gywe was born in 1930. He is considered the greatest living and most respected master artist and impressionist of Myanmar. U Lun Gywe studied art at the Institute of Teacher’s Training and continued to learn under U Thet Win, U Chit Maung, U San Win, U Ngwe Gaing and U Thein Han. In 1964, U Lun Gywe went to China to study oriental art and oil painting at the Beijing Central Institute of Fine Art. Later in 1971, the artist went to East Germany to attend a course in painting restoration.

U Lun Gywe’s art displays the artist’s joy at interpreting the beauty of his native land and its peoples. Many of his paintings are about the voluptuousness of Burmese women, the grace of female dancers and colorful flowers.

U Lun Gywe participated in many art shows and competitions outside of Burma such as Japan, Korea, Australia, USA, Singapore and Thailand. U Lun Gywe’s work can be seen in the Buddha Gaya Museum in India, at the Myanmar National Museum and in a number of private collections
