Le Nang Hien (1921)

Nang Hien was born in 1921. At the age of seven, he followed his artist uncle Tran Quang Hien to learn painting. Later, the budding artist took art courses in the ABC School. In order to deepen his learning experience, Le Nang Hien sent his paintings to France to have them critiqued by art professors.

At the age of 75 (1996), he organized a one-man show where seventy-five of his paintings were purchased by a “Viet Kieu” collector (Vietnamese living abroad).

Le Nang Hien specializes in silk paintings, which highly praise the Vietnamese culture and tradition. His largest work—the Bach Dang Giang Battlefield—is kept in the Museum of History in Hanoi. Besides painting, Le Nang Hien writes novels.

The artist’s paintings are no longer available in galleries now. They can only be seen in the Fine Arts Museum of Vietnam and private collections.
