Gusti Ayu Arimini (1966)

Gusti Ayu Natiharimini was born in 1963. She now lives in the village of Batuan, home of many famous artists. Her family is mostly composed of wood carvers and artists so her wish to paint from an early age is unsurprising. She did not go beyond the Junior High School and resisted any activities that would take her away from her work table.

Gusti Ayu Arimini works in the typical Batuan style, crowded with people and Animals, events and activities, requiring painstaking drawing before color is applied. A full size painting can take up to four months of continuous efforts requiring a high level of concentration from morning to night to complete.

Her work is also reminiscent of Le Douanier for it well ordered but busy nature scenes displaying a plethora of human activities. Arimini’s work can also be described as Genre painting, for it tells intricate stories on the Balinese traditional life.
